Outdoor Voices Merino T-Shirt Review

Most technical clothing tends to favor function over form. The Outdoor Voices Merino T-Shirt blends both form and function to create a shirt that you could hike and go out in.

Outdoor Voices may be a toxic company, but they know how to create good product. The Merino T-Shirts that I own were purchased before it emerged how nastily the company treated its employees. This shirt has since been discontinued, and is only available via resale sites like Poshmark and Mercari.

The Good

It’s merino. I love me a merino wool t-shirt. You can live in them for days with minimal stink. They are moisture-wicking and regulates body temperature well.

The fit. The Outdoor Voices Merino T-Shirt does an excellent job of blending form and function. Most merino shirts trend in the direction of not very cute or flattering. You can’t go out to a bar and feel cute after a workout or a hike. With this shirt, you can still feel stylish.

The colors. Outdoor Voices released the Merino T-Shirt in a variety of fun colors, including red and peach.

The Okay

The weight. I haven’t weighed the shirt yet, but the material is significantly heavier than, say, the Icebreaker Tech T. If you’re going fast and light, this may not be the shirt for you. But for day hikes, weekend backpacking, trips to the gym, this will suffice.

The Bad

They are discontinued. Unfortunately, these were discontinued at the end of 2019, and are now only available via resale sites. It’s quite a bummer, since these quickly became a staple in my closet.

The Verdict

Outdoor Voices Merino T-Shirt Review

If Outdoor Voices still made these, I would probably keep buying them in different colors, but I’m guessing that demand from the athleisure crowd is not as high as demand from me. I stocked up when I saw they were on super-sale at the end of 2019, so I’m pretty set for the next few years. However, I’m not looking forward to finding my next replacement for them.

Potential future contenders? Icebreaker Tech T Lite, Woolx Mia T-Shirt, Patagonia Short-Sleeved Merino Bike Jersey, or the Smartwool Merino Sport 150 Pocket Shirt?
