I love a good backpacking trip as much as anyone, but hiking to a cabin for the night? I’m a lazy lady, and that’s absolutely my jam. I’ve been to the Sierra Club Hikers Hut down the trail at Sam McDonald County Park. In May of 2023, Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) began operating the Audrey Edna Cabin in conjunction with San Mateo County Health’s Park Rx, and open for the public to use when it’s not occupied.
glamping
When it comes to glamping, Northern California has no shortage of fire lookouts and huts to spend the night in. These rustic destinations have the bare minimum, and then some, to make your night in the wilderness one to remember. Robbs Mountain Hut in Eldorado National Forest is one to add to your to-visit list.

Over the Fourth of July this year, I had the chance to stay at one of Tentrr’s Sierra Foothill locations. I picked the Falling Waters Oasis due to its proximity to North Lake Tahoe. My plan was to use our Tentrr as basecamp to escape the madness of Fourth of July at the lake while we bouldered our little hearts out over the holiday.
As the sun sets on summer I’m finally getting around to talking about the trips I’ve been on. This past summer has been a bit of a lazy one.
I planned on climbing something every weekend, but I can count the number of alpine starts I got on 2 fingers. Instead, I filled my schedule with backpacking and train camping.
