If you’re craving solitude amongst enormous sequoias, Merced Grove is probably your best bet. The least visited of the three groves, this grove of sequoias is equally as, if not more, majestic than the other two. The trailhead is right by Crane Flat, just inside the park’s northwest entrance.
The trail slowly makes it way down a hill and is well signed. Soon you’ll start catching sights of the trees off the trail. Then suddenly, you’re greeted by trees right next to you. Unlike the grove at Wawona, you can get up close and personal with these sequoias. And best of all? You probably won’t see another soul while you’re there.
The sequoias are spread approximately a quarter mile out from this point. The trees end when the trail reaches a cabin and turns into an unmaintained trail.
