Låtefossen is one of Norway’s most famous waterfalls. Located in Oddadalen, or Odda Valley, this is one of the most accessible waterfalls. It’s right off of Norwegian National Road 13 (E13). This waterfall begins as two separate streams coming from Låtevatnet cascading down the rock wall before joining and flowing underneath the road. It’s seriously a spectacular sight. If you’re driving into Odda (perhaps to hike Trolltunga?) this is something you can’t miss.
Adventures
Trolltunga was the first thing that was on my list in Norway. It’s basically the Norwegian version of Half Dome, except easier and about a hundred times less scary.
After flying into Oslo the morning of May 7th, we made the scenic drive out to Odda to snowshoe Trolltunga that Saturday, May 9th, with Trolltunga Active (formerly known as Opplev Odda). Trolltunga Active operates a number of trips in the Hardangerfjord area including climbing Trolltunga, zipline adventures, kayaking, and more. They’re some really cool and patient people if you ever need a guide!
The Eastern Sierra is chockfull of bubbling hot springs waiting to be soaked in. I mean, really, you can’t beat the soothing hot temperatures and mountain views and the price (free). I stopped by a few of the Mammoth hot springs on the way home from my 25th birthday Eastern Sierra roadtrip extravaganza so I could share with you.
There’s a dirt road that will take you to the majority of them. You’ll just need a bit of clearance. I won’t publicly post directions, but get in touch if you’re unable to find them. These are fairly well known, and tons of beta is available on the internet.
The Crowley Lake Columns are a little Eastern Sierra secret. If you’re a good internet creeper, you’ll be able to find directions to them with enough digging.
The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest is one of California’s many gems. Here in the xeric alpine environment, some of the oldest non-clonal living organisms thrive. The Visitor Center is located next to Schulman Grove, home to the Methuselah tree, the oldest tree alive until the discovery of one slightly older in the area.
